When I Count My Blessings - Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team blog hop

Hello friends!  Welcome back for another virtual hop around the world with the Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team!  We are the official design team for Stampin' Up!, and we are so thrilled to be sharing some fabulous autumn-inspired projects with you today.  Whether you're coming from the amazing Rochelle Blok or starting here with me, welcome to chilly Calgary, Alberta, Canada - get cozy and stay awhile as we welcome autumn!

As you may have noticed with this blog hop, we had two stamp sets to choose from this month - I was won over by one simple, tiny little part of the gorgeous Count My Blessings stamp set - those adorable acorns.

I was born in Ontario, raised in Alberta, moved back to Ontario, and then moved back to Alberta... and like any transplant, I always found myself missing parts of the place I left behind.  One of the things I miss most about Ontario is the big, incredible, gorgeous oak trees and the myriad acorns they would drop.  I found myself collecting them in my pockets, even as an adult, and rolling them between my fingers as I went about my day.  Autumn in Ontario is really an incredible sight to behold, and yet those acorns remain my favourite part.

Making this card made me chuckle and think of my dad - he lives in Ontario, and a few years ago, I had an idea to make some felted wool acorns... I needed real acorn tops to go onto the felted balls I had made, so I called him up and asked if he could scavenge a few and save them for me.  The next time my dad came to visit, he brought a huge grocery bag, absolutely FULL of acorn tops - hundreds, if not thousands of them.  Singles, clusters, with and without stems, large and small.  He later told me he had spent hours hunched under the biggest oak tree in his yard, picking them all up so I would have what I needed for my little project.  I love that man.

Now let's take a quick hop across the globe and see what the incredibly kind and magnificently talented Sylwia has for us today...

  1. Your color choices are really wonderful on this card--make the acorns pop! We have a yard full of oak trees. Usually, I am just annoyed by the carpet of acorns under my feet and the pelting I get as I walk the dog (I joke that it is the squirrels getting back at Roxie for chasing them and at me for having the gall to walk her!). This year, however, I have been noticing the difference in colors and other little details. Maybe it is all the pretty acorns in our stamp sets this year!
