Project Life - 2014-2015 Card Collections

Are you jittery with anticipation for the new catalog tomorrow? Eek, me too!  I'm trying to pass the time today so I decided to double-post.

When the retiring list came out, my immediate gotta-have-it items were the retiring Project Life card collections.  I've just started using Project Life to document my family's memories, since everything has been on my hard drive for (literally!) forever.  We've never had a photo album!  We're LONG overdue, and Project Life makes it so easy.  I started with my son's birth in 2011 and completed that calendar year in a couple of hours.  Amazing. 






Most of the card collections in the current annual catalog are not only retiring, but they're on sale.  For HALF PRICE, dudes.  HALF PRICE.  Run, don't walk, to my online store and grab them today!
I wanted to share a couple of layouts so you can have a peek not only at some of the cards in the collections, but also how easy Project Life makes documenting your memories.

Project Life - Daily December

It's May, I know, but it's never too early to get a head start on Christmas!  Last year, I decided to take my very first foray into Project Life.  I was burnt out and tired of old-school scrapbooking.  I was up to my eyeballs in digital photos that would never see the light of day.  I was sad that my son would never have photo albums to flip through like I did when I was a kid.  That moment really set in when he asked to see pictures of when he was in my tummy, and I had to pull up Facebook on my phone to show him.

So last year, when my fabulous friend and wonderful upline was offering a Project Life Daily December class, I jumped on it.  It was basically a guided tour into the world of Stampin' Up's Project Life collection.  A Daily December album - basically one little thing every day for a month - broke it down into a super easy, super manageable task.

I was able to finish the album, and we had a wonderful little snapshot of our family in 2014 and our holiday traditions.  I loved it so much, I vowed that I'd keep up.  Six months later, I've got the over-5000 photos on my hard drive organized and put into chronological order, AND I've made an album of my son's first few months (more on that in a few days!)

Project Life by Stampin' Up seriously changed my life.  It changed the way my family will see our memories because they'll actually be able to see them.  I've been storing our album on a low shelf in our family room, and I keep catching my son pulling them off the shelf and browsing them and asking us about when he was a baby.  Those moments are so special and I'm so glad I was able to do this for him, for all of us.

DIY Star Box

'Tis the season to be fancy!   I bought my husband a set of Darth Vadar cuff links this Christmas and the box they came in was SO boring!  That just wouldn't do.  I was kicking myself for not ordering the Many Merry Stars kit, but I still really didn't need 26 stars, so I decided to just make my own.  It's really quite easy - Stampin' Up has a tutorial on their website if you want to check it out, or scan the QR Code on page 25 of the Holiday Catalog. 


I loved how this came together!  In fact, I loved it so much that I kept it.  I gave him the cufflinks in the boring blue box and this is hanging in my office with some of my other favourite creations.  Whoops!  :)

Tomorrow is a blogging day off for me while we ring in the new year, but I can't WAIT to share some brand new projects with you on January 1st, 2015.  See you then!

No stamps? No problem!

I've posted before about our monthly team challenges - we are given a set of criteria by which to create a project.  I love these because they really push me out of my comfort zone.  I was a little worried when I saw this month's challenge - "No stamps!" - but it came together much more easily than expected! 


The star of the show on this project is the beautiful Under The Tree Specialty DSP.  This printed, heavy-weight Kraft cardstock is SO beautiful.  The colours are so classically Christmas and all work beautifully together, and Kraft is the perfect neutral that goes with everything.  Love love love!  I will sure miss this when it's gone...

I used the papers for most every element of this card - the main background, the contrast piece, and the embellishment.  With the embellishment, I wanted to try a number of different techniques with the paper and put it all together.


...and really, it wasn't too hard!  Punch a scalloped circle and smush it up, ruffle a piece and sew it into ribbon trim, punch out some leaves, and do a twisted/rolled flower.  So many options!  For the lighter pieces (the flower and the "ribbon"), I used my bone folder to separate the two halves of the paper and lighten the load a little bit - it takes patience, but it works beautifully.

Last but not least, I needed a sentiment.  No stamps?  Hmm... better go with those fabulous little wood pieces from the Hello December Project Life kit.  Crystal Effects adheres them without issue.

I have one last project for the holiday season tomorrow - check back then before we kick off the new year with the new Occasions Catalog!
