Stampin' Up Artisan Blog Hop - Welcome and Congrats!


Hello friends, and welcome to the very first Stampin' Up Artisan Design Team Blog Hop for the 2015-2016 year!  

I am so, so excited and honoured and NERVOUS as all-get-out to be making my very first "official" Artisan post today - this is a total dream come true and a huge honour!  I'm thrilled to spend the next year creating and sharing with you and I hope you enjoying coming along for the ride.  There are 20 of us on the team this year, from all around the world - we would be delighted to have you take a virtual trip with us to visit everyone!  

Since this is the first official post, we're supposed to introduce ourselves; so, hi! Hello! How are you!  I'm Shannon, and I'm thrilled to be representing Canada on the ADT.  I'm from Calgary, Alberta, where I live with my husband, our son, and our dog.  I have an unabashed love of bright colours, glitter, and twine in my crafting, and tea, baking, and Dr. Mario in the rest of my life.

I wanted to kick off the year with a toast to my fellow team members, so this card is for them.


Congrats on this "thing," ladies!  I can't wait to share it with you - cheers to a brilliant year ahead!

Christmas Chalkboard

Want to hear something hilarious?  I made this card quite a while ago (I've mentioned before that I tend to create in batches, photograph in batches, and blog in batches, so my projects aren't often "fresh" with the exception of scheduled things - TGIF, upcoming Artisan Design Team posts, etc.)  Anyway, I mentioned yesterday that a girlfriend and I shopped 'til we dropped on Saturday - we were standing at the cash register at Home Sense (the Canadian equivalent of Home Goods) and they had gift cards that looked almost exactly like this card!  Too funny, right?  Usually those sorts of things result in an "inspired by..." post, but this one was pure coincidence. 


The faux chalkboard creates a beautiful background for a shiny focal image on this card.  If you haven't done it before, the faux chalkboard is an easy technique with a big impact - using a sponge, lightly swipe your Whisper White Craft Ink over Basic Black cardstock.  When you reach your desired effect, heat-set to prevent smudging.  That's it!  


Apparently gold reindeer and faux chalkboards are hot this season - recreate the look with your Stampin' Up supplies for an on-trend card or a fabulous home decor piece.  Your imagination is your only limit!

Wonderful Nautical Man - The Open Sea

'Tis the season!  I spent the ENTIRE day yesterday on a shopping trip with my bestie, scouring the city for fabulous holiday decor (all her!) and I am completely Christmas-sed out!  So today, I've got a quick deviation from Christmas with a masculine card.  This one has been sitting on my desk for months in various states of completeness so it's about time I shared it.  


I made this background back in the summer and it's been sitting every since.  The card was put together and taken apart a couple of times before I landed on something I loved.  And do I ever love it now!  It's finally to my liking.  Sometimes that just takes a while!

The faux metal anchor is a really cool technique using heat embossing - just another fun way to use your stamps.  Should I do a video or does everyone know how to do this?

I hope you've had a wonderful weekend so far - if you're a procrastinator like me, you'd better get shopping!  Can you believe Christmas is less than two weeks away?!
