You're Cool... but I wasn't! A blog about GLASSES.

Hello, my friends!  Thanks so much for stopping by.

How is your weekend going?  It's been a bit cool in my neck of the woods so I've been holed up and crafting for a few days... you'd think I'd be sick of it, but no way!  I've got lots of good stuff up my sleeve for you, and I've also been able to finish a quilt for my new nephew and I'm almost finished one for my son.  It's been pretty productive!

Today's card is a bit of a fun little mishmash, but it didn't come together quickly!  About three months ago, I created this little piece of paper with the watercolour glasses on it.  The stamp is from Day At The Beach - and sunglasses were not what I had in mind!  I stamped and coloured this piece, then filled in all of the glasses with the Fine Tip Glue Pen to make them raised and glossy; it was a super cute effect.  But then I had no idea what to do with it, so it sat with my UFOs (UnFinished Objects) until last weekend.

I had pulled out the Cool Treats stamp set for an upcoming Artisan Design Team blog hop, and the "You're cool" sentiment was staring me in the face... and I thought "OH!  Those GLASSES!"  It was a match made in heaven, and the resulting card came together in just a few minutes.

The funny thing about this?  Glasses and "cool" were a natural combo for me.  And I'm a big proponent of "geek chic."  I love the imagery of glasses - heck, I even used them for my "About Me" icon on this blog!  But did you know I wear glasses?  You're not alone if you didn't!

I've had glasses since I was 12, and I'm virtually blind without them, but I will almost never wear them in pictures.   Even if I'm not wearing contacts that day, my glasses will come off.  I've been wearing them for more than 20 years and it's still a struggle!  I think it's because I started wearing them at the most awkward, self-conscious age in my life, but I will never, ever feel pretty with my glasses on.

This picture was from Christmas of 1995, I think, wearing my first pair of glasses.  I've cropped out my brother, dad, and stepmom to protect their dignity.

Things have improved since then - or at least I hope they have! - but truth be told, when I wear my glasses, that's how I feel.  Like the awkward, dorky teenager with bad skin who hadn't learned how to deal with her curly hair yet (in fairness, I'm still trying to figure out this hair.)  And as a result - I almost ALWAYS make a goofy face if I'm wearing my glasses in a photo... I feel like if I'm going to look goofy, I may as well go whole-hog, right?

Why am I telling you all of this?  Because of the power of a handmade card.  Think of how warm and fuzzy it makes someone feel when they receive a handmade birthday card in the mail.  I'm constantly blown away by how much my friends and family appreciate a handmade card and a written note in the mail.  Now think of what this card could do for that awkward, nerdy, self-conscious girl in the picture above.  Small things matter.  Kindness matters.  And sometimes, girls (and boys!) with glasses just need to be reassured they're cool anyway.  :)

When you make a card - SEND a card.  Even a goofy one like this.

With love,
Shannon

P.S. - Day At The Beach is retiring, as is Gorgeous Grunge, used to make the splatter in the background, AND the Tags & Labels Framelits.  Eek!  Hustle on over to the shop to catch these beauties before they're gone.  And don't forget the host code!

Fancy Friday: Basket of Berries

Hello friends!  Welcome back to Fancy Friday!  I can't believe it's already the end of April - we are still getting oodles of snow, so you can't blame me!  This winter is dragging on and I keep reminding myself that summer will be here soon.

Let's think about bright blue skies, fresh berries, picnics, and green grass - all the beautiful reminders of warm weather.

Our theme this month is a card without a sentiment.  Looking through my own archive, I think I've only done this about four times!  It's HARD for me!  The trick seems to be finding a beautiful focal image, and Basket of Wishes has those in spades.  I've made a card similar to this one for autumn before, and I wanted to brighten it up and make it summery.  Wishful thinking, maybe?  (Seriously... this snow has GOT to stop.)

There's quite a mix of supplies on this card - some items, like the Celebrate Every Day Project Life kit and the Tasty Treats DSP - are retiring as soon as supplies sell out.  Others, like Basket of Wishes and Touches of Texture stamp sets - are previous releases that are carrying over to the new annual catalogue.  And others - like the strip of woodgrain DSP and the Flirty Flamingo Baker's Twine - are a sneak peek of brand new items that haven't been released yet.  Are you getting excited for the new catalogue?

Don't forget to make a list and check it twice - retiring items are selling out quickly!  Hop over to my Online Store and pick them up before they're gone - but please don't forget the host code!

Let's hop over to my fancy friend Cathy Caines for her fabulous project!

Thanks so much for coming by today - I can't wait to see you again soon!

Cheers,
Shannon

Clearance Rack Update - Shannon's Favourites!

Hello, my friends!

Some very exciting news rolled across my desk late last night - the Stampin' Up! Clearance Rack has been updated, and it's stocked full of fantastic items that you won't want to miss (and the prices are jaw-dropping!)  Do you want advance updates on sweet deals like this?  Please be sure to Subscribe to my newsletter to get them delivered to your inbox.

I wanted to share a few of my favourites with you - and what better way to see them in action than some of my past creations?

The gorgeous embellishments on this card are not to be missed - say hello to the Glitter Ribbon Combo Pack ($3.20) and the Fancy Frost Sequins ($2.60!)  Can you believe those prices?!

This gift card holder uses one of my all-time favourite stamp sets, Bombs Away.  Perfect for snarky sibling cards, great for guys, and perfectly punchy.

And it's $8.50.  Get outta town, right?!
This frame was one of my most popular projects - and it wouldn't have been possible without a whole lot of the Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper.

It's another one you won't want to miss, especially at only $6.80.  A total bargain.

Christmas cards were whipped up in a flash last year - these ones were based on a tag received from my friend and upline, Allison - and the Fancy Frost DSP makes the background extra-special.

It's so easy, though, since the work is done for you!  Another must-have, and only $6.80.
And lastly, the It's My Party Designer Series Paper Stack.  This is a 12x12 stack; 48 (!!!) sheets of paper in 24 patterns.  There is SO MUCH PAPER in this stack that I'm still working my way through it - good thing it's perfect for birthday cards for everyone on your list!  This card shows off a number of the patterns -

And this one shows off my most favourite sheet.

They're practically giving it away at only $12.80.  That's 26 cents a sheet, and a single sheet will cover SIX cards fronts!  Less than five cents per card, my friends.  That's craziness.

As always, the Clearance Rack is available WHILE SUPPLIES LAST.  Don't miss out!  I hope these cards provided you with a fun start and a good jumping-off point for your creativity; now get shopping in my Online Stampin' Up! Store and have fun!

And don't forget the host code - I can't wait to send you some project ideas to make with your new supplies!

Cheers,
Shannon
