Inspired by... Beautiful Advertising!

Hello friends!  It's been AGES since I've done an "inspired by" post!  I occasionally like to share something that seems run-of-the-mill and ends up being a source of inspiration for paper crafting.  When you're open to it, inspiration is everywhere!

This past weekend, an advertisement for Chapters-Indigo (think Barnes & Noble, Canadian-style) popped up in my news feed on Facebook.  It was totally love at first sight, and I screen-capped it to save for later.

I mean, it's gorgeous, right?  That is some beautiful design, right there.

I had a customer request on deck for a bright, fun birthday card with a tea theme (my favourite!) so I decided this would be my jumping off point.

I went with Pool Party, Daffodil Delight, and Melon Mambo for my bold stripes in the background, then used those same colours to make a focal point.  I love how this came together!  Teacups don't have to be frilly and fussy - they'll go with whatever style and supplies you choose!

Cheers,
Shannon

Inspired by... POW! Super-love card!

Today's card is another "Inspired by..." post.  I was itching to use my Calling All Heroes photopolymer set before it inevitably runs out of stock and becomes unavailable soon!  And just after I grabbed it from my shelf, I noticed a comic-style storage box in my craft room that totally inspired me.  So easy!

A couple of punches, a couple of framelits, and the Paper Piercing tools came together to create this card in a flash, and the classic comic book colours of Real Red, Pacific Point, and Daffodil Delight seal the deal.  Ka-pow!

What's inspired you lately?

Inspired by... an ad on Songza.

Inspiration is EVERYWHERE when you're open to it.  Periodically, I like to do an "Inspired by..." feature, where I share what inspired a project.  They are almost never anything you'd expect; it's been advertising for Home Depot, a clock at Home Sense, and a bottle of soap in the past!

Today's "Inspired by..." inspiration was shared on my Instagram account (@crushoncolour) a few nights ago.  I was happily creating and listening to Songza when I glanced at my iPad and immediately noticed this gorgeous banner ad from Dine Alone Records.  Um, can you say gorgeous? Click here to check it out for yourself.

So off I went, using one new and one old In-Colour to recreate the look and turn it into a card.

The soft look of Mint Macaron and Crisp Cantaloupe just begged to be combined with gold, white, vellum, and newsprint.  Ahhh, so sweet and pretty!

Where do you find inspiration in unexpected places?  Keep your eyes open - it's all around you!

We are down to our FINAL days to purchase retiring items.  On this card, you won't want to miss Crisp Cantaloupe, Starburst Framelits, Stacked With Love DSP, and Four Feathers stamp set and coordinating framelits!  Click the links below to go directly to my online Canadian Stampin' Up store and shop 24/7 in your jammies.  I won't judge.

Cheers and have a wonderful Sunday.  :)

Inspired by... a clock.

There's this clock I keep seeing at Home Sense (the Canadian version of Home Goods) that I'm lusting over.  It's beautiful.  It's a standing clock, silver, with this amazing background cobbled together from pieces of wood in yellow, blues, green, and natural.  I've seen it with every weekly visit to the store (because yeah, I'm THAT Home Sense shopper that goes every week!) and every time, I hem and haw and decide against it, because I can't think of a place in my home where it could go.

So I made a card instead.  Because that's the kind of person I am.

And I'm kind of in love with it.

Maybe I'll just frame this and put it in my house.  Surely I can find a place for that.

Have a fabulous weekend.  :)
